Hello!
ALL BAND STUDENTS will be participating in the Graduation ceremony at the Idaho Center on Thursday! We'll be able to play "Celebrata" and "Pomp and Circumstance" and we'll need all hands on deck!
Students are excused to leave class at 12:00 PM to grab lunch so that they can be on the bus in CONCERT BLACK, with their MUSIC and INSTRUMENTS at 12:15 PM.
Students who will be at Swan Fall High School at that time will be picked up from SFHS (at the student bus drop off area) at 12:25 PM.
SENIORS, please arrange to have your instrument/music with you or brought for you to perform as you will go straight from graduation practice at the Idaho Center to playing with the band at the Idaho Center during our sound check (before graduation starts). Seniors, also plan on turning your school instruments in following graduation as well (they'll be brought back to the school in the band trailer).
Percussionists, please plan on helping load the trailer on Thursday at Intervention (10:40AM).
I'm excited for the chance to perform and share our music with our Kuna community of students, parents and friends- it's going to be a great time!

Good Morning!
I must apologize that it's taken more than a week to get these videos to you, but I ran into a little difficulty in uploading footage of our concert. Here is the playlist for our Third Quarter Concert!

Just as a reminder as well, there is a conducting clinic for anyone who is interested after school today from 3-4:30 PM (great opportunity for those of you interested in being a drum major next year). Links for those applications are available on our website: https://www.kunabands.com/news.html

MARCH 17, 2021
Hello Students,
Thanks for being so awesome with our student teacher, Mr. Conte and so incredible with our substitute/assistant Ms. Goldsberry! The way that you treat guests in our classroom makes me so proud to be your teacher!
Following a normal school year, we wouldn't be worrying about these things until a little later on in the year, but with the 3rd quarter close to wrapping up, I wanted to get a head start on these applications for this year. (All of these dates and applications are available on our Band Calendar and Website).
Below you'll find a link for the Band Letter Application for this school year. https://forms.gle/s3cpWMBuDU7RMXmx8 These are due on April 15th. I know we've had fewer opportunities to be really involved in band this year, and that will certainly be taken into consideration as you apply for your Band Letter. Students of any grade may apply to receive a Band Letter and I'll review every application. Band Letter winners will be announced before the end of the school year with a Letter and a Pin going to recipients.
There is also a link to an application for Jazz 1 Auditions for next school year. https://forms.gle/taH94HkKtXrYASRV8 These applications are due on April 15th. After receiving your application, we will then have a playing audition where you will play some blues/major scales and do some sight reading. Those auditions will be April 19-22 during intervention. There is no need to schedule a specific time, just come play!
Lastly, there is a link to the Section Leader and Drum Major Application. https://forms.gle/MEFL2ZinBArSTBmUA These applications are due on April 15th as well. Ms. Goldsberry will be running a conducting clinic after school Monday April 12th from 3-4:30 PM if you'd like some background and help with your conducting to prepare for being a Drum Major. There will then be a signup sheet in the band room for an interview for Drum Major/Section Leaders which will occur on April 26th and 27th.
If you have any questions about these things, please send me an email or talk with me. I'd encourage EVERYONE to apply, even if you're not sure if you're the best candidate for Jazz/DM/SL or even a Band letter. Every year it seems like someone is surprised that they qualified and sometimes they make the best leaders/performers!
Fill out these forms SOONER rather than later! Thanks everyone and have a great day!

Hello Everyone!
First of all, I want to share a big thank you to the many of you who have reached out and have been so encouraging and supportive as my wife and I have welcomed our baby boy, Ryker to our home. It's been amazing the support that we've felt from all of you!
I feel like I finally have some updates to share with you on how the upcoming 3rd Quarter Concert will go for students currently in class (Percussion/Jazz2/Wind Ensemble):
On Monday, March 29th, 1-4 PM Jazz 2 will meet for Rehearsal in KPAC (it may end earlier than 4). I believe that this day is a no school day for students, but we will continue to have the rehearsal. This will be an important opportunity for us to put all parts together, adjust balance, and work some things out.
On Tuesday, March 30th, 3-6 PM Wind Ensemble and Percussion students will meet for Rehearsal in KPAC (it may end earlier than 6). This rehearsal will focus on combining all parts together, especially as these two classes rehearse separately.
Thursday, April 1st, 7 PM will be the Concert date and time for this 3rd Quarter Wind Ensemble/Percussion/Jazz 2 Concert with a student call time of 6 PM. Student attire will be concert black. Students will be allowed 4 tickets for spectators in the KPAC. These FREE, printed tickets will be distributed to students at Monday's or Tuesday's rehearsal. The concert will be held in the KPAC with spacing and masks and seating will follow the guidelines that the school has had in place for winter athletic and activities events (set up for spacing with no assigned seating).
I'm excited for this opportunity to put some music together and have a great time as ensembles! We'll see you all soon!

Hello Everyone!
I'm sure you are all in the midst of getting registered for next year and I wanted to touch base with you on a few things:
First of all, thank you to all you students and parents for putting up with the roller coaster that has been this 2020-21 school year! In addition to a lack of a competitive marching band season, we've learned how to wear masks/use bell covers (and get used to the odd sounds/tuning that creates!), play at basketball/football games in these settings, work with guest/student teachers for a significant amount of time (including time I've been welcoming a new baby to my home) and figure out how to love and support each other from 6 feet apart! I know I'm looking forward to next year!
As of right now, I'm working on putting together a 2021-22 school year that fits more closely with what we may be used to (while continuing to be safe). We're getting geared up to host the Kuna Marching Invitational in October, D3 Marching Band Competition has a date for October 23rd at Boise State on the Blue and there's so much to get ready for this upcoming marching band season! Expect information about section leaders/drum major auditions and Jazz 1 auditions here soon this spring. (Here's a little reminder of marching band: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FWNY7S62yuY
When you go to register for next year I'd encourage you to sign up for your BEST GUESS on band classes and we can alter in the future if we need to. As always, if you have questions, feel free to send me an email!
Here's the basic layout of Semester 1 and Semester 2 courses for band:
Semester 1
Wind Ensemble (10, 11, 12 grade woodwinds) includes marching band!
Concert Band (10, 11, 12 grade brass) includes marching band!
Percussion (all percussionists!) includes marching band!
Jazz 1 (generally jazz students who have taken Jazz 1 or 2 before- we'll adjust after auditions) required to have WE/CB/PERC first
Jazz 2 (all other jazz students- we'll adjust after auditions) required to have WE/CB/PERC first
Fall Band (all 9 grade students (except percussion)
Semester 2
Wind Ensemble (auditioned in November, but generally 11, 12 grade woodwind and brass)
Concert Band (9, 10, 11, 12 grade non-auditioned woodwind and brass)
Percussion (all percussionists!)
Jazz 1 (continue on from 1st semester)
Jazz 2 (continue on from 2nd semester)
Music Theory (generally 11, 12 grade students looking to prep for music theory for college or interested in learning)

Great job at the basketball game last Friday! We have the opportunity to play at our last home basketball game this Thursday at KHS! All band students are invited to play. Call time is 7 PM in the gym bleachers. Please come wearing a band shirt and jeans and bring your instrument, music and mask.
There will be 4 spectators allowed to attend the game per student, so please email me the number of tickets that you'll need for the game. I'll make a list and that list then goes to the ticket booth to allow you to purchase tickets and give you entry to the game.

JANUARY 28, 2021
Hello Students and Parents,
I'm really excited to share an update with you about our band! I've been working closely with our administration and as things have developed we are starting to explore some awesome possibilities beginning this quarter!
First of all, there is a Boys Basketball game next Friday, February 5th. We are going to be able to have a pep band play at that game! Call time will be at 7 PM and students will be asked to wear a band shirt/polo and jeans and adhere to all the safety guidelines that we've had in class. This is open to ALL band students! There will be adequate space for us to situate ourselves as the entire top home side bleachers will be used for the band only. Come prepared with your music and instrument and ready to have a fun time!
Also, students will be allowed to have up to 4 spectators come be a part of the basketball game crowd. In order to get an idea of numbers of participants and spectators, please email me with your name (or student name) and the number of spectators who will come to the game. Thank you! [email protected]
Secondly, since there are guidelines that are changing to allow spectators at school events, we are developing a plan to give music students that opportunity to have spectators at our upcoming concerts. More information will be forthcoming, so please stay tuned for those details.
Thanks for all that you do/have done to support the band program here at KHS- your love and support has been such a positive influence in these times!

Hello!
As a band, we had a great time Tuesday night as we got together and recorded many of the songs and exercises which we've been working on during the second quarter. I'm so proud of all the students' efforts and their individual practice to put these songs together. It's been a blast for me as a teacher to see their incredible growth during these short 9 weeks!
Below is the link to the YouTube playlist for our recorded material. This link will continue to be available on our band website as well (www.kunabands.com).
Next semester we look forward to having all of our concert band and fall band students participating in the same class together (6th period concert band) and having all of our percussionists in percussion class (3rd period percussion). If you're not sure of your student's band schedule for the remainder of the year, please feel free to send me an email at [email protected].
Thank you for all of your support during these times and ENJOY THE MUSIC!

DECEMBER 15, 2020 UPDATE
Hello Students and Parents,
As we get closer to the 2nd Semester, I would encourage you to check out your band classes/schedule.
Keep in mind, students are required to be involved in a Concert Band/Wind Ensemble/Percussion class before adding a jazz band class.
Any student who didn't participate this first semester is welcome to jump in next semester!
I'd encourage any winds/brass players who are Juniors or Seniors to be in the Wind Ensemble Class next semester.
Any Sophomore or Freshmen winds/brass players should take the Concert Band Class next semester.
If you took Fall Band this semester, please take Concert Band this next semester.
All percussionists (regardless of grade) should be in the Percussion Class next semester.
Any students who were in Jazz 1 or Jazz 2 in the first semester should continue in next semester.
Any additional students who would like to add Jazz band may enroll in Jazz 2 next semester.
Next semester could also be a great time to take music theory- that will be offered 7th period.
If an adjustment needs to be made to your band schedule please let me know or email both your counselor and me to get that taken care of soon.
Thank you for all your support throughout this year- please stay safe and have a great upcoming break!

Lastly, Mrs. Krall and I have some exciting news that I've been sharing in each class the last two days and that she's been sharing with her students at Skyview. We are SO excited to share with you that we're expecting our first baby this upcoming March! Right now baby boy's due date is likely during spring break. :)
Lastly, lastly, we will be having a student teacher join us from Boise State when we get back from break as well. It should be a great opportunity for all of us in the program to work with some upcoming teaching talent and hopefully learn some more along the way!
If I don't send out any other communication before the beginning of winter break, please have a safe, fun, relaxing break! You all are so awesome!

Hello!
Here's a brief reminder that our band performance for the Jazz 2, Wind Ensemble and Percussion classes will be tomorrow (Tuesday) at 6 PM in the KPAC! Please wear concert black and come prepared with your instrument, music and masks. We will be recording the performance and then sharing the recordings with family and friends in the upcoming days! OCTOBER 20, 2020 UPDATE
Hello,
As many of you may be aware, Central District Health has moved Ada County into the "red". As we are in the "red", the Kuna School District is following CDH guidelines and currently planning on having no spectators at school events. This includes sporting activities and unfortunately, music performances.
We plan on moving forward with our rehearsals during class time and after school for this week and next week. Next Tuesday's Band Performance for the Wind Ensemble, Percussion and Jazz 2 classes will continue. However, there will be no spectators allowed. Rather, a recording will be made and shared shortly following the concert on the Kuna Bands website for family and friends to enjoy.
Student call time for Tuesday's Band Performance is 6 PM. Students are asked to arrive in concert black attire. If students have a black Kuna Bands polo they are encouraged to wear it (if not, concert black is just fine). Students will need to bring their instrument, music, masks and continue to follow school guidelines.
As always, if you have questions, please feel to reach out via email at: [email protected]
Thank you for your continuing support in these times.

Semester 1

Hello Students and Parents,
Great job at the basketball game last Friday!
Let me know if you have any questions- thank you so much for your support!

Also, I've received word that band gear which you have ordered should be delivered to the high school this week. I'll be distributing that gear during classes for those students who are in band class right now.

As was mentioned previously, we're looking forward to having our Juniors and Seniors perform pep band music at Friday's football game!
We do have 2 ticket vouchers for each band student who attends the game so as to allow parents to watch the game/band. If you would like to reserve 1 or 2 of those ticket vouchers, please email me and let me know by Thursday. I can then let our athletic department know and have the tickets available to share with your students at Thursday's after school rehearsal (3-4 PM).
There is a limited quantity of tickets available band/cheer/football for the football game, so please let me know as soon as possible if you'd like 1 or 2 ticket vouchers.
Also, tickets still need to be purchased at the rate of 6 dollars per ticket. Emailing me secures a ticket (based on availability), but payment will be requisite.

Great news for the band! This Friday, September 18th, our KHS Football team will be playing against Centennial here in Kuna at 7 PM. We're looking to put together a pep band for the game and have a great time!
With current group size limitations, we are opening this performance up to ANY BAND JUNIORS AND SENIORS (whether you have a band class currently in your schedule or not). This is an opportunity for you to come play pep band for the evening! We will perform following the same protocol that we've been using in class: 1- wearing masks, 2- covering our wind instruments, and 3- keeping distance.
To prepare for the game, we will be working on music from our warmup/pep band packet this week in class and have a rehearsal after school on Thursday from 3-4 PM on the band practice field outside. If you absolutely cannot attend this rehearsal, I would still encourage you to come play at the game.
Call time for the game is 6 PM. Please wear a band polo/shirt and jeans if possible. If not, please wear a black shirt and jeans. The evening may get cool, so having a jacket on hand may be a good idea! We'll be done with the game around 9-9:30 PM like we've experienced in the past.
If you need an instrument or music, please let me know ASAP and we'll get things squared away.
Have a great week!

Hello Parents and Students,
I hope you and your families are doing well! As we make more plans for this semester, I wanted to share a couple of updates and thoughts with you as we move forward with our band:
- We are currently planning to begin the school year with the band playing marching band music, using marching band instruments. (section leaders are sharing some great ideas on possible marching band music!)
- Students are allowed to participate in band as an in-person class even if they are taking classes online with IDLA (just let your counselors know).
- Previously I had mentioned the possibility of a reduced Fair Share Payment. This year there will not be a Fair Share Payment for band. The only costs that may be necessary for the year include the opportunity to purchase band shirts/gear and rent instruments from the school.
- If your student needs a school instrument for marching band, please arrange to stop by the high school Wednesday or Thursday between the hours of 9-11 AM. I would encourage students to only have 1 school instrument checked out to them (unless they need something for jazz band as well). I will be greeting students/parents one at a time outside (curbside) in front of the flagpole by the main office. Please wear a mask for this check in/out process.
- Other school instruments may be turned in during those same hours as well. If your student has left their instrument at the school over the summer, you must come pick it up during these hours. There needs to be no personal instruments left in the building before school starts so that we can sanitize the band room. Please wear a mask for this check in/out process.
- Start preparing now for your students to have masks for their regular classes and have a separate mask available for band class.
- Woodwind and Brass players will need to have specific alterations made to their band mask for playing (information included in link and images).
- Woodwind and Brass players will also need to have a mask/bell covering for their instruments.
- It seems prudent for brass players to have a rag/small towel available for taking care of spit valve content. Please prepare to have that available for your students.
- It will be most hygienic/simple/cost effective if each student is responsible for providing their own personal masks/instrument masks and related equipment.
- I've included a couple of images from the University of Colorado scientific study focusing on performing arts and aerosol as it pertains to COVID-19. Please use this information in preparing masks for your students/students instruments.
- Here is the link to the full performing arts and aerosol study. There is a lot of good information regarding aerosol safety and how it will affect/influence our decisions for band this fall. https://www.nfhs.org/media/4030003/aerosol-study-prelim-results-round-2-final.pdf
- If you or your student needs help in preparing these materials, please let me know via email ([email protected]) and I'd be happy to help out. I know there are some parents who are willing to help others out as well.

AUGUST 4, 2020 UPDATE
Hello Students and Parents,
Thank you for your patience and understanding as I've been working on gathering information and collaborating with administrators (including Mr. Graves and Superintendent Johnson) to determine our band's course of action for this fall season. As we make these difficult decisions, our primary focus is to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for band students. This email will provide some insight and answer some questions, however, there are other pieces of the puzzle that we're still putting together and will share as soon as possible. Please read the entire email.
With current circumstances what they are, we are planning on altering our marching band season for this fall and simplifying what we have going on. Rather than focusing on a full, Competitive Marching Band Show (all area competitions are currently cancelled and whether spectators will be allowed at football games or not is still being determined), we will look to play marching band instruments within the structure of the school schedule and adjust our music and efforts accordingly. For ease of reading here's a bullet-point list of some of the alterations for this fall:
- Without a competitive side to marching band this year, we will be cancelling Band Camp (originally August 11-21).
- We will not be rehearsing regularly on Tuesday and Thursday evenings as we would normally do for marching band.
- Once school begins on August 27th, we will try to contain band activities to the school schedule. As the school is planning on a hybrid model, we could actually get a lot accomplished with our in-class time if students look to improve their practice regiment during online hours.
- We will follow all school guidelines in regards to social-distancing and masks. More information about what this looks like specifically will be shared soon.
- In order to better adhere to social-distancing guidelines we will be rehearsing outside as much as possible. Most time will be spent on music without movement/marching. When it will be requisite for us to be inside, we will have access to the KPAC(Performing Arts Center) to better spread out.
- Each band class will be focusing on marching band music for the 1st quarter. This year's originally planned music (A Hero's Quest) is quite expensive, and we'll look to table it until we can perform it as a full Competitive Marching Band Show in the future. We will instead be focusing on some other marching band music, which I'll be working with our Student Leaders to select shortly. In addition to that music we will spend time in our warmup packets, foundations books and work on pep band music!
- We've discussed several possibilities for our colorguard students. Colorguard will function like a school club and students will not need to take the "Percussion" class. Our colorguard coaches will be working to provide video tutorials so that students can develop their skills this fall. More details will be coming later.
- Band classes will be altered slightly so that we can spread students as evenly as possible between classes, which should help with social distancing possibilities. We'll be working with school counselors to likely get Seniors/Juniors into the Wind Ensemble class and half each of the Sophomores/Freshmen into the Concert Band and Fall Band classes. All percussionists (Freshmen through Seniors) will be in the Percussion class. Both jazz bands will be available for students as a second band class like normal.
- Normally, we have a Fair Share Payment to help offset the costs of running our band program. At the minimum, that payment will be greatly reduced for this year (more info coming soon). We would encourage parents and students to not make any Fair Share Payments at this time. Students using a school instrument are still encouraged to either contribute 50 dollars to the school or provide repairs and upkeep on the instrument. We may have a band shirt order available once school begins (where students and parents could buy band gear). More information to come.
- In order to take advantage of the amount of time that we will have available on a hybrid schedule, we will have an instrument (and guard equipment) check in/out day on August 19th and 20th from 9-11 AM at the high school. More information will follow.
- As a matter of info: Idaho All-State Band and Music Educator Conference is cancelled for this school year. Whether or not there will be a band festival for jazz bands and concert bands is still undetermined.
- Please fill out the band handbook as soon as possible. It will help us be able to plan for students for the fall. Here's the link: https://forms.gle/GtuxurFx5fe1Z7fB8
Thank you for your support and flexibility as we continue to move forward. I miss you all and look forward to the upcoming opportunities to make music with you!

JULY 23, 2020 UPDATE
Hello Students and Parents,
As I mentioned earlier in the week, I had a D3 Band Director meeting today where I was hopeful to receive some more insight to our fall marching band season and what things may look like this fall season. I wanted to share those results with you, though I don't have much more beyond that at this moment.
I was very impressed by the collaboration which occurred and the very thoughtful approach that was had by all of our D3 Band Directors. Using information from Boise State University (host), our administrators/school districts and from national research, D3 Band Directors have elected to forego the D3 Marching Band Championships for this year. I know that is a difficult thing for many students and adults (including me), but I feel that it will open up the options that we have for band this fall.
Each high school/school district in the area seems likely to pursue some different options for band education. I'll be working with our administration over the next few weeks to further develop a gameplan for band at KHS which will put student safety first and give students the opportunity to further develop their music and band education this fall.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate our students' education in these times.

Good Morning Students and Parents!
I hope that you've been healthy and safe over the summer! I've been working hard with our administration to develop plans for this upcoming year for band and have been doing a considerable amount of research. I would like to be very transparent with my thoughts and the process that we'll be following this year. These plans are still a work in progress, though clearly a couple of adjustments need to be made in the meantime. I've detailed those adjustments below and more information will be coming soon.
First of all, on a personal note, I want you to know that I take the current situation regarding COVID-19 very seriously. It's been pressing on my mind all summer (as I'm sure it has for many of you). I'll be following guidelines and protocols from the CDC/IHSAA/KSD and in the end, I will likely err on the side of caution in an effort to keep your students safe. As an educator, I believe that safety is requisite before education can even begin.
It seems unlikely with current guidelines that we should be gathering together as an entire band or as a parent group at this time. That's the blessing/curse of having a large band program! Due to this, we are cancelling the student meet and greet and the parent/student meeting which was originally scheduled for July 27th at KHS. The purposes of those 2 events will be absorbed into band camp and online communications. Further communications will continue to be relayed online at www.kunabands.com/news, via email (if you've signed up for TeamSnap), and on Facebook at our 2 pages (Kuna Gold Band & Guard/ THE Kuna Gold Parents).
The Kuna Chamber of Commerce has rescheduled Kuna Days from Aug. 7/8 to Oct. 2/3. Due to this, we are cancelling all band preparations for the Kuna Days Parade which was scheduled from August 3-7. This included all Freshmen/New Student Preparations and Colorguard and Percussion Preparations. These preparations will likely be absorbed into band camp.
Currently, the first rehearsal/event that the Kuna Band is scheduled for now is the beginning of band camp on August 11th. I'm working towards a definitive plan in regards to band camp with KHS admin and will have more information next week. Currently, band camp this year runs from Aug. 11-14 and 17-21 and normally runs from 8 AM to 4 PM at the high school. (See our calendar online at www.kunabands.com/calendar).
I have a meeting with our administration this week to continue to develop plans for the upcoming school year. I also have a meeting on Thursday with all D3 High School Band Directors. My presumption is that combining my research, information and thoughts with these other professionals will lead us closer to an idea of what high school band and marching band will look like for the 2020-21 School Year.
I will be sending out my next communication likely next Monday, so keep an eye out for that. I love music education and working with your students! I'm looking forward to this school year no matter what it may look like. I'll be doing my best to keep students/families safe and provide an enjoyable music/band experience! Thank you so much for your patience and support at this time.
In summary:
- July 27th Meetings CANCELLED
- Aug 3-7 Rehearsals CANCELLED (ABSORBED INTO BAND CAMP)
- Aug 11-14, 17-21 Band Camp UPDATE COMING SOON

JUNE 25, 20202 UPDATE
Hello Students and Parents,
As many of you are aware, with the altering of our band's plans for next Monday, that has removed the opportunity for us to announce our Drum Majors and Section Leaders for next year in person. I'll be sharing that info in this email and I would also like to announce the Jazz 1 roster for the fall and update you on the Band Letter awards. Finally, I have a couple other thoughts at the bottom of the email. So here goes:
Attached to this email are the lists for next year's Drum Majors and Section Leaders and Jazz 1 Roster. These are also posted on our website under the Kuna Gold Band and Guard and Kuna Jazz 1 ensemble pages. www.kunabands.com As our program has grown significantly over the past several years, each year it proves more difficult to select these students because we have so many who are qualified! Keep your chin up if your name isn't on this list- opportunities to lead are all around!
Also, just to make you aware- Band Letter Awards will be provided to Seniors at our Senior celebration on Monday (6:30 at KHS). Band Letter Awards for all other students will be distributed in the fall when school resumes. Up to this point, all students who were to be receiving a Band Letter would have received a confirmation email from me about 1 month ago. If as a Senior, you are unable to pick up your Band Letter on Monday, please reach out to me in August to arrange to pick up your Band Letter Award and Pins.
As things continue to change in our school and our community, I ask for your patience and flexibility as we look for appropriate and safe solutions for our band students. I will always do this while collaborating with KHS Administration and following KHS and KSD guidelines and protocols. I do my best to keep up with the current events, but it's become obvious that making plans too far down the road will inevitably lead to constant course corrections. Due to this, there may be a shortened timeline between the announcement of plans and actual events in the future. For now, we will look to our closest events and go from there! Here's a recap from my previous email about what's coming next:
1. Monday, June 29th 4-6 PM: any students/parents are welcome to stop by in front of the high school to check in/out instruments and music for next year
2. Monday, June 29th 6:30-7:30 PM: band seniors (students only) end-of-year celebration and instrument/music check in
3. Currently, we will still follow our online band calendar: our next meeting will be on Monday, July 27th.
4. Finally, if you have not filled out a Band Handbook form for next year, please follow the link here for more information: https://www.kunabands.com/calendar.html
Thank you for your understanding and support!

JUNE 23, 2020 UPDATE
Hello Band Students and Parents!
I hope you're beginning to enjoy your summer vacation! Though the break and great weather has been nice, above all, I would love to return to school and make music again!
I wanted to share with you an update and revised plan for our Rehearsal/Recognition Day which has been planned for Monday, June 29th. In working with our school administration and including the input of student leaders, we've adapted our original plans to fit the current circumstances and the needs of the band program. Please note that the originally planned High School Graduation on July 2nd has been simplified to become a Diploma Ceremony at KHS with no band or choir performing.
As a band, the plans for our Rehearsal/Recognition Day have also been simplified. I understand that this will be a much more abbreviated day than we had planned for previously, but as always, the first priority for our band will be the safety of all involved while following Kuna School District and Kuna High School guidelines. Secondarily, as it has become obvious that Graduation wasn't going to be the same this year, the need for rehearsing right now disappeared and the focus has moved to closing out the school year for Seniors and transitioning to preparations for next year for incoming Freshmen, Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors. On Monday, June 29th we will have two "events":
The first event will be an opportunity for ALL band students to check in or check out instruments (or colorguard flags/rifles) and music based on student's needs for the fall. Students will be encouraged to stop curbside in front of the school (by the main office flagpole) and I will be there to facilitate instrument check in/out and have music printed and available for students to take home with them for the fall (warmup packets, show music, etc). Students can come to school anytime on June 29th between 4-6 PM. This is not a required event, but rather an opportunity for your student to be better prepared for this upcoming band season! If your student has not filled out the online band handbook with you before then, please either fill it out online or bring in a signed physical copy which can be printed off here: https://www.kunabands.com/band-handbook.html
The second event will be an opportunity for Band and Guard Seniors to come together and celebrate the end of the year as a small group. They will also need to check in ALL school instruments and music (especially JAZZ 1 MUSIC!). I've been able to work this out with administration support under the stipulation that we follow school protocol related to COVID-19. Seniors will meet while following social distancing practices and everyone will be required to wear masks. These Seniors will have an opportunity to meet in the Commons and outside the building for this event which is designed to celebrate and recognize their achievements. There will be a gift for Seniors and a chance for us to catch up for the end of the year. This event will begin at 6:30 PM in the KHS Commons. Unfortunately, families will not be invited to keep the group fairly small. Lastly, to be clear, this is a celebration for the Seniors and not a required event.
So to recap:
1. Monday, June 29th 4-6 PM: students/parents are welcome to stop by in front of the high school to check in/out instruments and music for next year

Please stay safe and enjoy your summer!
