Kuna Bands News
Hello Parents and Students,
I'm looking forward to tonight's halftime performance- our Senior's last home football game! Parents/families are invited to join their Senior on the track at the beginning of halftime.
Tomorrow's rehearsal (9am-1pm) is going to also be great along with Saturday's competition at Caldwell High School (call time 9am)
Also on the radar is our 2nd marching competition of the year which we host: the Kuna Marching Invitational (KMI) on October 12th (next Saturday).
In order to make a large event like the KMI work it takes many hands- staff, students and parents! If you'd like to get involved there are some specific roles to sign up for via this signup genius LINK. There may be other opportunities to help out as well in addition to what is listed. If you sign up or are interested in helping regardless of the role, please attend our KMI Band Parent Meeting next Tuesday at 7:30 PM in the band room. We'll go over the details of these roles and set up some other opportunities to help on October 12th as well.
I've also attached a poster that you can spread on social media that advertises the KMI.
Lastly, please note that due to daylight hours shortening at this time of year, we will adjust our evening rehearsals to be from 4-7 PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning next week. That's just a reality each year until we can get lighting on our practice field.

Hello Parents and Students,
The online store for parents, families, friends and students to purchase additional band gear is open! Students do not need to purchase anything- they will already be receiving a band polo and a band show t shirt. Many students choose to purchase items for fun, or simply so they have multiple shirts to use for performances.
Spread the word and get your gear!

Hello Students and Parents,
What a great job at the D3 Band Festival at Vallivue High School! Both the Concert Band and Wind Ensemble represented our program SO well. I'm so proud of the efforts of all students in your practice time, sectionals and class rehearsals. I hope that you learned a lot during this concert cycle which included festivals, clinics and concerts. We're now going to move on to some fun and exciting music these last few weeks of the semester as we prepare for a final concert in May!
In the meantime, we have some other exciting events coming up:
- Tuesday, April 23rd we will have our first annual Kuna School District JAZZ BAND concert! It will begin at 7 PM in the KHS Commons. Student call time is 6:15 PM. Both high school jazz bands will perform as well as the jazz bands from FMS and KMS. Concert attire is band polos and black pants/shoes/socks.
- Tuesday, May 7th is the KHS Orchestra concert (it starts at 7 PM). Wind Ensemble and Wind Ensemble Percussion students will participate in that concert by playing a combined piece with the orchestra near the end of the concert. Concert attire is band polos and blue jeans. Band student call time is 7:30 PM.
Later this week I will be sending out information about the following: Section Leader/Drum Major Applications and Interviews for next year, Jazz 1 Auditions and Applications for next year, Wind Ensemble Auditions and Applications for next year, Band Letter information and application for this year.
Currently, I DO have the band handbook which has been updated and needs to be filled out for next year. The band handbook can be found here: https://www.kunabands.com/band-handbook.html
Please click on the Google Form link and fill out the band handbook for next year as soon as possible. Thank you so much and have a great week!

Hello Parents and Students,
Wind Ensemble and Wind Ensemble Percussion is coming up on its joint concert with the College of Idaho next Thursday and I have some details to share about that concert!
Call time for the concert is 5:30 PM at College of Idaho's Jewett Auditorium in Caldwell. Concert attire will be our best concert black. I would recommend parents taking students to the event and then staying for the concert. There is free parking available in the lots on campus (no parking police is my understanding). I have not scheduled a bus for this event.
At 5:30 PM we will gather at Jewett Auditorium and set up instruments. Some large percussion equipment will be provided, but percussionists will have smaller instruments assigned to them to take to the concert. At 6 PM we will be fortunate enough to have Dr. Strother (band director at College of Idaho) work with our group. That clinic will conclude around 7 PM and the concert will begin at 7:30 PM. There will be free admission at the concert.
I'm so excited to get this chance to play on a college concert, work with a college director and see a college band perform!

- KHS is getting geared up for a rivalry game with Middleton for a boys bball game next week. The band is set up to take a bus and play at the game at Middleton. Call time would be 5:45 PM on Feb. 6th. We would It would be great to take all students to that game- students, please sign up on the paper on my office window!
- Our band has also received the honor of being invited to perform as a pep band at the Big Sky Basketball tournament! Basically, not all of the college teams will be able to bring their bands to the games in downtown Boise and our band will get the opportunity to fill in and play at their basketball games. The games will be at Idaho Central Arena in Boise. The games will be played March 9, 11, 12. I'm working with tournament hosts and will share more information as I receive it.
- Lastly, Dr. Strother, band director at the College of Idaho has invited our Wind Ensemble to participate in a joint concert Thursday, March 21st at the College of Idaho's Jewett Auditorium! This should be fun time where Wind Ensemble and Wind Ensemble Percussion students arrive at 5:30 PM and get a chance to work in a clinic with Dr. Strother. Afterwards, our Wind Ensemble would play on the concert with the College of Idaho's Wind Ensemble performing after us. It should be a great educational opportunity and a fun night to hear some college band music!
- Kuna Indoor Percussion (KIP) is still going strong! See updated rehearsals and information on our website page and calendar: www.kunabands.com/calendar or https://www.kunabands.com/kuna-percussion.html
- KIP will be performing at this Friday's Basketball game at KHS at halftime- come check it out!
- Gold Pep Band has a basketball game performance this Friday. Call time 6:30 PM.
- Black Pep Band has the last regular season basketball game next Thursday at 6:30 PM.
- Next Friday the band will play at the 10 AM Assembly in the KHS Gym.

Hello Parents and Students,
I wanted to send a quick note and say thank you Wind Ensemble and Percussion for an absolutely amazing performance at today's Veteran's Day Assembly. It was incredible and exciting to have that opportunity to share a performance with Veterans, the school and the community.
I've been working closely with our percussion instructor, Jazzy Graves and we have made plans to have an indoor percussion group this winter. It will be open to all percussion students AND any band students who want to participate. There will be auditions/open gym time this upcoming Monday and Thursday (5-8pm both days) where you can work with Jazzy and audition for the group. More information on the ensemble can be found here: https://www.kunabands.com/kuna-percussion.html
Let me know if you have further questions about Kuna Indoor Percussion. Thank you!

Hello Students and Parents!
First of all, what a great weekend! Students- you did a great job and had a fantastic first competition performance at Caldwell! Looking forward to see where we go from here!
This week is unique. We have our regular Tuesday rehearsal from 5-8 PM. Tuesday evening at 7 PM we will have a parent meeting to prepare for hosting the competition at our school on Saturday.
There is no school on Thursday, so we will have our Thursday rehearsal from 8 AM to 11 AM.
Thursday evening is a football game. Call time is 6 PM. Please show up in the appropriate attire and place your water bottle in the stands prior to call time.
On Saturday we HOST the Kuna Marching Invitational. If you're not planning on helping out at the show, we do have tickets available for purchase: https://www.showpass.com/kuna-marching-invitational-23/
Student call time for Saturday is 10 AM. I've attached our itinerary for the competition to this email email. Students, please expect to either help with various tasks at the KMI or be an awesome audience member for the other bands! We will feed students lunch and then get ready for our own performance at the end of the show. Lastly, we'll all work together and clean up after the awards presentation. I'd imagine we're done around 4:40 PM.

Hello Parents and Students,
I finally have specific times and information for our Caldwell Competition which is next Saturday, September 30th! Students are asked to show up in parade attire (gym shorts, long black socks, and show shirts) with water and instruments by 10:15 AM. We will warmup and prepare for the show at the high school then provide students with lunch before we head to Caldwell.
Once we get to Caldwell High School we will get ready for the performance. Tickets are available through the link to the website on the itinerary. Parents are very welcome to come enjoy the show! After our performance we will provide a snack to students and then watch the remaining bands and the ensuing awards ceremony. If students need more than the provided snacks, concessions are available at Caldwell High School. Following the show we pack up and leave as a band to return to KHS. Students are expected to stay for the entirety of the day until we return to KHS.
Here's the link to the itinerary which is available on our band's website: https://www.kunabands.com/kuna-gold-band-and-guard.html
If you'd be interested in helping out, please email me and let me know. Normally we're looking for some parents to do double-duty and be chaperones (ride the buses/sit in the stands with students) and equipment movers at the same time. There will likely be a signup sheet for lunch coming around as well. More info to come soon on that.
Thank you for all of your support of your students! It's a great time of year as we really get to see students' effort come to fruition in building a great (and more complete) marching band show!

Hello Parents and Students,
It's been a great beginning of the school year for all the band classes at KHS. We will be having our Jazz and Fall Band Concert next Thursday, November 10th. It will be at 7 PM in the KPAC at the high school. Admission is free for the concert.
Students are asked to be there (ready to play) at 6 PM. That will give us the time we need to get organized, warmup and tune. Students are asked to wear concert black. That can include the Kuna Bands black polo with black pants or match the description of concert attire from the band handbook: Thank you so much for your support and I look forward to seeing you at the concert!
CONCERT ATTIRE:
Please prepare now to have appropriate concert attire for your student. All attire must follow school dress codes. At concerts and festivals students are expected to wear "concert black". This includes the following possibilities (keep in mind, everything should be SOLID BLACK): --black, long sleeve dress shirt with black slacks, black socks with black formal, close-toed shoes (black tie optional) --black knee-length (or longer) skirt with nice black shirt or blouse and black formal, close-toed shoes --black suit or tuxedo with black dress shirt, black socks with black formal, close-toed shoes (black tie optional) --black knee-length (or longer) dress with black formal, close-toed shoes.
If your student may need some help finding appropriate concert attire, please feel free to reach out to Mr. Krall well in advance of the first performance that the attire is needed. Students need to wear appropriate concert attire to perform at concerts or festivals.
Thank you so much for your support and I look forward to seeing you at the concert!

Hello!
I'm so proud of what our students have been able to accomplish in the last few weeks and I'm looking forward to a great performance on Saturday at BSU!
Please refer to the itinerary for info about tomorrow's performance(s). Current weather forecasts make it look like the rain will mostly be in the morning, but please help your students to come prepared with layered warm clothing if it becomes necessary. Also, we'll do our best to give students a good lunch and snacks after their performance, but with the day being as long as it will be, I'd recommend students coming prepared with some money for concessions at Bronco Stadium. BSU has a strict policy of not bringing bags, umbrellas or outside food or drink into the stadium so please plan accordingly.
On Monday we will have the marching band perform for 8th graders who will be visiting KHS at the beginning of intervention. Call time is 10:30 AM in the band room. As we will be performing through intervention and lunch time I will provide some pizza for students. Feel free to bring your own lunch though if you'd prefer that.
Also on Monday we will be having our end of season celebration with a dessert bar. Student call time is 6 PM and the event will begin at 6:30 in the KHS Commons. It's a great chance to recognize students and give parents, friends and family a chance to see/hear the show one last time.
Please see the information from the band boosters:
Parents,
This year we will be doing a dessert bar for the end of season banquet on Monday, 10/24.
Please see the sign up sheet below.
Thank you all so much for your help with providing food and helping to serve the band students/staff this year. I know all of the band students/staff appreciate it as well.

Hello All!
Tonight is our last football game of the season and it's senior night! My apologies in not sharing this sooner via email.
We look to recognize our band seniors twice in the year- once, briefly, at the football game and more specifically at our final band concert of the year. Tonight, parents of seniors are invited to join their students on the track at the beginning of halftime where their name will be announced briefly before our halftime performance. Parents, feel free to join us on the track via the gate at the south side of the bleachers (which the band generally uses for getting on for halftime).
Call time for all students tonight is 5:45 PM. Please move water and music beforehand.
Tomorrow is the Vallivue Competition! Call time is 11:30 AM and the itinerary is available on our website and calendar.
Very soon I'll be able to send out our D3 Itinerary for next Saturday as well. Please ensure that all students are at our last two rehearsals next Tuesday and Thursday from 4-7 PM. Thank you!

Hello Band Students and Parents,
Due to poor air quality, tonight's football game and band performance has been cancelled. Currently, the game has been rescheduled for 2 PM tomorrow.
Our current plan as a band is to perform at tomorrow's football game. Call time will be at 1 PM in parade attire (black marching shoes, long black socks and black shorts and shirts).
Administration will continue to monitor the air quality situation for tomorrow's game as well. I plan to do my best to send an email by 12 noon tomorrow to give a final update on the status of the football game and our band's performance. I will be consistently checking my email and responding until that time. Thank you for your support and understanding!

Hello Everyone!
I have an update for the purchasing of band gear for the year. Students are being provided a marching band show shirt (black, short sleeve) and a Kuna Bands polo shirt which is included in their Fair Share Payment. Those items have been ordered and are on the way.
We have an online band store open starting right now for students, parents, family and friends to purchase their Kuna Bands gear! The store will close by September 14th, so I'd encourage everyone to get their orders in by Tuesday. Use this link to go purchase your gear:
https://stores.inksoft.com/khs_band_show_store/shop/home
Just as a reminder, we have a football game tonight (call time 5:30). Next week we'll have our two evening rehearsals 5-8 PM on Tuesday and Thursday and then our big Saturday rehearsal on the 17th from 9 AM to 1 PM. We'll need everyone there to put final touches on the show as we go into the competition season.
Thank you for your support and feel free to email with further questions

Hello All!
Students have been doing a fantastic job during band camp and already have half of movement one on the field with music and marching memorized!
This Friday, I'd like to invite you all to come check out our parents/friends performance in the KHS stadium at 6:30 PM. Student call time is 6 PM in black shorts, black shirts and athletic or marching shoes. Should be a good time!
Next Tuesday will be our first evening rehearsal from 5-8 PM. The plan right now is to have a run through of the show at the beginning of rehearsal and then students fitted for uniforms essentially from 6-8 PM. Any parents willing to help with uniforms are encouraged to email me with your intentions. Having 4-8 parents helping out would be great! My email is [email protected]
